Josh Berry had never stepped foot on Tri County Speedway in North Carolina until this weekend but it didn’t make a difference as the JR Motorsports prospect won his second consecutive CARS Tour race in the Do the Dew 200 on Saturday night.

The victory wasn’t without controversy as Berry made his winning move on a stout Austin McDaniel on a restart with 13 laps to go. There was contact but after 30 laps of clean racing between the two, Berry said it was time to press the issue.

“There was definitely contact, but you know how this kind of racing goes,” Berry said in Victory Lane. “It was like 15 laps to go and there’s going to be contact. That’s what you have in this kind of racing.”

McDaniel spent the next two laps trying to get to Berry’s back bumper but spun out of Turn 2 a couple of laps after the restart. That set up a 15 lap, three driver showdown between Berry, Deac McCaskill and Tommy Lemons.

McCaskill and Lemons spent the final 15 circuits side-by-side which allowed Berry to cruise away with his second victory of the season and fifth overall in CARS Tour competition, breaking a two-way tie he had with Christopher Bell a top the charts.

The victory also allowed Berry to eat away at McCaskill’s seven point championship lead.

“There was definitely contact, but you know how this kind of racing goes,” Berry said in Victory Lane. “It was like 15 laps to go and there’s going to be contact. That’s what you have in this kind of racing.”
“It’s always great to win when the boss is watching and I know Dale Jr. was tuned in from Michigan,” Berry said. “So thanks to him, Kelley and LW for everything they do. We were fast when it mattered, the car came on strong late and I just love racing in this series.

“It’s always cool to win at a track you’ve never been to before too so I’m just having a lot of fun right now.”
