CONCORD, NC :: Justin Carroll ran second to Josh Berry for much of the Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) Late Model Stock feature at Concord Speedway but a late race restart relegated him to a fifth place finish.

Carroll, who is not the same Justin Carroll that races at South Boston Speedway and sometimes East Carolina Motor Speeway, was in second when the caution came out with 10 laps to go.  Myatt Snider, Christian Eckes and Deac McCaskill were all able to get around Carroll in the closing laps.

“We probably deserved a second place finish,” Carroll said.  “We ran second to Josh all night long.  He kind of got away from us there so we were saving our stuff in case a caution came out.  I think we just didn’t get as good a restart as we hoped and we didn’t get down and ultimately, that’s what killed us.  I was getting ping ponged out there, especially by [Christian Eckes].

“It’s racing and we’ll hopefully be racing at Southern National next weekend.  I can’t wait to build off this.”

Carroll often races at various tracks in North Carolina, sometimes racing at Hickory.  He has had the most success at Ace Speedway in his career.  Carroll is a self-described low budget racer competing against some of the Late Model Stock Car heavyweights in the Carolinas.

“We race one race at a time because we’re one of the under budgeted teams out here,” Carroll commented.  “It’s how we’ve always been.  We made it through this race undamaged so onto Southern National hopefully.  If we make it through there, we’ll have to plan out our next one.”

The third place finish on Saturay night was Carroll’s best career CARS Tour finish.
