Deac McCaskill to honor Earnhardt in CARS Tour Throwback 276

Defending CARS Tour Late Model champion Deac McCaskill has chosen to honor the legendary Dale Earnhardt next month during the Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina.

This is the second paint scheme revealed for the first-ever CARS Tour Throwback event on August 5 — after Nolan Pope and ASM Graphics uncovered a Petty Blue No. 34 intended to honor ‘King Richard’ himself.

McCaskill will trade in his usual blue and orange No. 08 to fly the No. 3 that Earnhardt made famous when winning six of his record seven NASCAR Winston Cup Series championships. This particular design pays homage to ‘The Intimidator’s’ 1984 livery, right down to a Wrangler Jeans sponsorship.

That season, Earnhardt won twice and finished fourth in the standings. It was the first paint scheme that McCaskill remembered as a kid growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“We chose the 1984 Wrangler car because that was my first memory of Dale driving,” McCaskill said. “I just want to send a huge thank you to the CARS Tour for making this throwback event possible. This is going to be great, a fun weekend for all the driver, crew members, and fans in attendance. It will be a special feeling at Hickory that weekend, knowing all the history that took place there over the years.”

The paint scheme was designed by Graphix Unlimited, owned and operated by CARS Tour Super Late Model regular Bradley McCaskill, and Deac’s 28-year-old cousin.

“It’s really cool to see the series finding ways to bring excitement to the track each and every race,” the younger McCaskill said. “For Deac, it was an easy pick to choose Earnhardt.

“I know he was always an Earnhardt Sr. fan growing up, and I know it will mean a lot to him to run the iconic No. 3 on his car for a special occasion. As a company we are glad to be involved in this inaugural program with the CARS Tour, to showcase some really cool vintage designs at the Late Model level.”

Again, for Deac, this decision was a no-brainer.

“As a kid, watching racing on TV, I became a big Dale Earnhardt fan,” McCaskill said. “So, when the CARS Tour announced that they were going to have a big throwback weekend, I knew right away who I wanted to honor.”

The ‘Throwback 276’ will feature special throwback paint schemes by competitors, traditional priced concession items and will honor several legends of the sport in attendance during a special pre-race presentation courtesy of the Hickory Soup Kitchen.

The event will feature 138-lap green flag races for both the Super Late Models and the Late Model Stock divisions. The 276 total laps matches the 1971 and 1972 distance the NASCAR Cup Series ran at the .363 mile track. In addition to the race distance; a special red, white, and blue throwback “CARS Tour Late Model Series” logo will be used on all branding, including special CARS Tour official uniforms and various tour merchandise that will be made available.
