New Smyrna Speedway suffered considerable damage by short track standards during Hurricane Irma over the weekend according to photos released by the track on Monday.

The famous Florida half-mile is located just 15 miles south from Daytona International Speedway. NASCAR’s crown jewel facility also received a degree of cosmetic damage during the category 4 hurricane. Specifically for New Smyrna, the scoring tower and grandstands were spared but the infield tech shed, scoreboard and advertising wall took a heavy hit.

The shed took the brunt of wind damage while the scoreboard was left a mangled, twisted mess. The Skip’s Western Outfitters sign in the middle of Turns 1 and 2 was completely knocked over.

Irma fortunately didn’t touch Clyde Hart’s famous green truck.

New Smyrna Speedway is home of the World Series of Asphalt during Speedweeks and the November Florida Governor’s Cup 200. Photos of the damage can be viewed below.
